H&B Against The Incinerator

In September 2018 following our last 'In Bloom' awards evening the community came together to found an action group to fight the proposal to build a 'waste to energy' incinerator in our community. The inaugural meeting was well attended by members of the community after discussing the issue in-depth, the group elected Richard Chambers as Chairman to lead the efforts against the proposal in conjunction with Harworth & Bircotes First

I am glad to say that thanks to the efforts of Richard and the group as well as the participation by the wider community that the proposal has now been defeated. This stands testament to the great community spirit that we have in our town. It also goes to show that the many, many meeting that the group and the community attended was well worth the fight.

On behalf of the Harworth & Bircotes First and I think as well the wider community I would like to thank the efforts of both Richard for his leadership and Jackie Grimwood for organizing the TV News Crew all of which played a crucial role in the rejection. As well as all those working behind the scenes such as the ladies giving out leaflets.

It has been a joy meeting and working with you all in this necessary campaign to protect our community from unwanted development.

Sonia K Armstrong
